Big Ten Shows Up Well IN Recent National Championship Odds
6th November, 18:40SportsBetting.ag released its updated odds earlier this week and there were a few notable changes. Michigan State moved to 7-1 (bet $1 to win $7) to win the National Championship, taking over sole possession of favorite, with Kentucky as runner-up at 9-1. While 7-1 is the best odds to win as of right now, both Kentucky and Duke had better odds to win at this time last year - both were placed at 5-1.
Despite Michigan State coming in as the favorite, they are not currently in the top five liabilities for SportsBetting.ag. The sports betting site stands to lose the most money if Florida comes out on top in April. The Gators enter the season as my favorite in terms of value as they bring back sophomore leader Andrew Nembhard while bringing in newcomers Scottie Lewis, Kerry Blackshear, and Omar Payne. The biggest liabilities for SportsBetting.ag currently is:
There has also been some movement in Vegas for the conference champion odds. In the Big Ten, Purdue has been getting some public backing. Despite losing their best player in Carsen Edwards, the Boilermakers' odds have moved from 10-1 to 6-1, currently tied with Maryland for second-best odds behind Michigan State (+150). They are followed by Michigan (+700), Ohio State (+800), Wisconsin (+1600), and Illinois (+2000).
The college basketball landscape is somewhat of a mystery coming into the 2019-20 season. Last year, the nation was somewhat top-heavy, being able to decipher the contenders from the pretenders. To provide some context, there were nine teams that entered last season with better than 30-1 odds to win the National Championship. This year, there's fourteen teams. With the national landscape being so wide-open, it should provide for an interesting season, at least until we start seeing teams prove themselves as we move closer to conference play.
