California tribes greenlit to begin sports betting push -
23rd January, 21:02SAN DIEGO (KUSI) - A measure to allow sports betting in California could be on the November 2020 ballot.
California's attorney general on Tuesday allowed a coalition to collect signatures for a gambling proposal that would allow betting on professional and college sports at tribal casinos.
The proposed ballot initiative was put forth by 18 tribes in the state led by the Pechanga band of Luiseño Indians.
They need nearly a million signatures to get the measure on this year's ballot.
The text reads that a 10% tax would be imposed on sports-wagering profits at horse-racing tracks; directs portion of revenues to enforcement and problem-gambling programs.
