FanDuel Sportsbook at Tioga Downs providing safe, secure betting - WBNG

14th October, 01:02

NICHOLS (WBNG) - Sports betting became legal in New York state this past July, and since then, the FanDuel Sportsbook at Tioga Downs Casino Resort has seen an increase in people heading over to place their bets.

"The Southern Tier have been phenomenal to us," said FanDuel general manager Sam Cawthray. "You've got a huge crowd with a great atmosphere. This is exactly what sports is about and sports betting in particular gives it an added dimension. [Sports betting]'s a long overdue product."

Casino resort owner Jeff Gural says the sportsbook gives locals a chance to experience a true casino right in their own backyard.

"It's a big draw, and I think it adds one more component," Gural said. "So we really have everything you'd see in a Las Vegas casino right now."

FanDuel not only offers informational customer service for those just getting into the world of wagering, but a secure environment as well.

"This one is face to face, you make the bet right on the spot, and you can get paid right on the spot," said Jeff masker, a customer at FanDuel. "Knowing that if I make a bet, I'm definitely gonna get paid. It's not like online betting, where you're maybe a little more skeptical."

Gural said the sportsbook isn't a large source of revenue for the casino, but still sees the benefits of the larger crowds that have come from the legalization.

"People are betting are betting illegally, so it's nice that it's taxed, regulate, and we've created a lot of jobs so hopefully people come out and give us a try," Gural said.

So as Tioga Downs and FanDuel look to bring in more customers, they're betting sports teams can help them out.

"As these teams continue to grow, more and more people are coming in. So we are supremely happy with it right now," Cawthray said.

Gural told 12 News Tioga Downs is looking to expand their kitchen in order to keep up with food demands stemming from the Sunday popularity of the FanDuel Sportsbook.
