Maple Leafs, Canadiens home favourites on Saturday NHL odds -

4th January, 01:53

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be looking to extend their current points streak to 10 games when they return home on Saturday to face the New York Islanders as -160 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by

Toronto is coming off a decisive 6-3 win in Winnipeg as -135 road chalk on Thursday and takes an 8-0-1 run into Saturday night's matchup at Scotiabank Arena.

Overall, the Maple Leafs have claimed victory in 10 of 12 contests to climb into sole possession of second place in the Atlantic Division, eight points back of first-place Boston. The team's current surge has also revitalized its Stanley Cup odds, which now sit at +1400, just ahead of the Islanders at +1500.

The Maple Leafs have built their resurgence on an impressive offensive roll, potting 4.75 goals per game over their past 12 outings. That level of offensive production has fuelled a strong 6-2 run for the over in totals betting at the sportsbooks.

The Islanders arrive in Toronto pegged as +140 underdogs after dropping a 2-1 decision to the New Jersey Devils as -220 home favourites on Thursday night, marking their fifth loss in eight outings. Offensive production has emerged as a real issue for New York, which has scored three or fewer goals in 15 of its past 19 contests. The team has produced solid results in recent road outings, earning the win in five of their past six, but have claimed victory just once in their past six visits to Scotiabank Arena.

Elsewhere on the Saturday NHL odds, the Montreal Canadiens will be searching for an end to a four-game losing streak as they host the Pittsburgh Penguins as slim -115 favourites at sports betting sites. Plagued by a rash of injuries, the Canadiens shook up their lineup this week by trading for defenceman Marco Scandella and signing free agent Ilya Kovalchuk. In addition to losing five of six overall, Montreal has also tallied just two wins in 11 home dates.

The Penguins sport -105 odds in Saturday's matchup, and are coming off a 3-2 loss to San Jose on Thursday night. However, Pittsburgh has posted wins in 10 of 13 contests, and has claimed victory in six of its past eight visits to Bell Centre.
