Mattress Mack loses $2M betting against Kansas City Chiefs, according to betting website
20th January, 18:52It seems like the Houston Texans aren't the only ones who lost big going against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Local philanthropist and furniture mogul Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale is known for putting his money where his heart is. In October, Mattress Mack wagered about $13 million on the Houston Astros to win the World Series. As we all know, that bet didn't pay off.
A little over a week ago, he reportedly put $1M on the line, picking his hometown Houston Texans to beat the Kansas City Chiefs, according to The Action Network, a sports betting website.
It looked like a smart bet when the Texans were up 24-0. But it turned to dust when Houston got outscored 51-7 the rest of the way.
Apparently Mattress Mack felt the Chiefs were due for a loss. The Action Network reported that McIngvale flew to Mississippi on Sunday morning, and to put down two $500,000 bets on the Tennessee Titans -- one at the Beau Rivage, the other at the Scarlet Pearl, for a total of another $1 million against the Chiefs.
McIngvale reportedly opted for the +300 moneyline, meaning he would win $3 million if Tennessee beat the Chiefs.
Once again, early hopes got dashed when the Chiefs came back from being down 17-7 to win, 35-24.
"I got tricked into thinking Derrick Henry was invincible," Mack told The Action Network.
If you want to try your hand betting against Mattress Mack, his Gallery Furniture stores typically run a "Win it All" promotion yearly, in which customers who purchase furniture totaling more than $3,000 get their money back if the Astros win the World Series.
