Sports Betting Is Now Legal in Indiana
2nd September, 17:15Sports gambling officially became legal in the state of Indiana on Sunday.
Thirteen locations - casinos and off-track betting facilities - across the state were authorized to take sports bets as of Sept. 1.
Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb was the first to place a bet at the Indiana Grand Racing & Casino in Shelbyville.
Holcomb put $10 on the Indianapolis Colts to win the Super Bowl, $10 on the Pacers to win the NBA championship and $10 on the Indiana Fever to win Sunday's game against the Minnesota Lynx. He said if he won he would donate the money.

Sports betting was legalized in Indiana thanks to a gaming law the legislature passed earlier this year, allowing people 21 and older to bet on major league games in the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL.
You can also bet on events like professional boxing, golf, soccer, even cricket and sailing, among others.
What's still not allowed though, is wagering on high school and youth sporting events.

Mobile sports betting also became legal on Sunday, though none of the state's locations have been authorized to do that yet, meaning bettors will have to do it in person.
