28th January, 15:20With sports gambling now legal in 14 states including New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island, wagering on the Super Bowl will hit a record $6.8 billion according to a Morning Consult survey sponsored by the American Gaming Association.
Morning Consult estimates nearly four million people will place wagers at betting parlors, a 25 percent increase, with five million more doing so online for a 19 percent boost from last year's Super Bowl. The remainder will bet through bookies, formal pools and casually between acquaintances.
Six more states plan to legalize sports betting in the coming months, with Connecticut lawmakers to consider the issue in the legislative session that begins in February.
