Top sprinters battle on Autumn Carnival's Super Saturday

5th March, 05:13

Can the three-year-old crop continue to dominate on a super Saturday of racing? Ladbrokes Late Mail has the inside word from the world of sports betting.

Super Saturday is always one of the highlights of the Autumn Racing Carnival and we will be treated to a pair of Group 1 races at both Flemington and Royal Randwick this weekend.

Some of the best sprinters in the country will do battle in the Newmarket Handicap and it is a fascinating betting race.

The three-year-old crop continues to impress and the Ladbrokes market suggests that it will be a three-year-old that wins this contest.

Bivouac ($4.80), Exceedance ($4.80) and Loving Gaby ($5) are all locked in a battle for favouritism, while there has also been support for Libertini ($9.50).

The Australian Cup is the other Group 1 event at Flemington.

Avilius was beaten as a short-priced favourite in the Australian Cup 12 months ago, but punters are willing to give him another chance and he has been backed from $4.50 into $3.90.

The Randwick Guineas headlines the action in Sydney and Super Seth is a $2.70 favourite to claim another Group 1 victory.

Super Seth remains the only horse to have beaten Australian Guineas winner Alligator Blood and he goes into the Randwick Guineas on the back of a close second in the Futurity Stakes.

The Challenge Stakes rounds out the four Group 1 races on Saturday and the Ladbrokes market suggests that it is a race in three between Standout ($2.40), Savatiano ($3.30) and Alizee ($3.50).

Alizee is the proven performer at Group 1 level and looks the value in the Canterbury Stakes.

We are now less than a week away from the start of the NRL season and there are a huge array of betting markets available with Ladbrokes.

It is a case of the usual suspects on top of Grand Final betting.

The Sydney Roosters are $4 favourites to claim a third straight NRL Premiership, but they have been a little easy in betting after opening at $3.50.

The Melbourne Storm have also been on the drift ($5 out to $6), but they remain on the second line of betting from the Canberra Raiders at $7.

It is the Parramatta Eels and the South Sydney Rabbitohs that have both been the best-backed outfits with Ladbrokes.

They have both been $15 into $11 after some impressive pre-season performances and have also been well-supported in top four betting.

The North Queensland Cowboys played some excellent rugby league during the NRL Nines and Ladbrokes punters expect that form to continue when the season proper gets underway.

They have been backed from $26 into $17 and are now the shortest of the three Queensland sides from the Brisbane Broncos at $19 and the Gold Coast Titans at $101.

The Ladbrokes market suggests that it will be another long season for the Titans.

They are $2.75 in the Ladbrokes Most Losses market from the Canterbury Bulldogs ($4.50), New Zealand Warriors ($7), Wests Tigers ($8) and St George Illawarra Dragons ($9).

One Ladbrokes punter is optimistic about the chances of the Broncos claiming their first premiership since 2006 and has had $2000 on Anthony Seibold's men at $21, while the same wager was placed on the Manly Sea Eagles at $13.

It has quickly become apparent that the Brumbies are the best side in the Australian Conference and it would not surprise if they are the only Australian outfit to win this weekend.

The Brumbies are $1.01 to beat the Sunwolves ($17) and it would take a brave man to bet against them at WIN Stadium.

The market is not as confident about the chances of the Reds.

The Reds showed some positive signs against the Sharks, but they were once again unable to finish the match off.

Their recent record in New Zealand has been nothing short of dismal and the Crusaders represent their toughest assignment of the season to date.

It is no surprise that they are $10 with Ladbrokes.

The Waratahs also face a tough assignment against the Chiefs.

The home side has had the upper hand in this rivalry, but the Chiefs rarely lose two games on the trot and they are $1.30 favourites with Ladbrokes to return to winning form following their loss against the Brumbies last weekend.

The Rebels stunned the Highlanders in New Zealand last weekend and are the favourites to string together back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

This is not necessarily a position that they have thrived in over the past 12 months.

The Rebels have won four of their past seven games as home favourites for a betting loss and they are only 2-5 against the line in this scenario.

The Big Blue between Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC headlines the action in the A-League this weekend and it is a very interesting game from a betting perspective.

Sydney FC had their winning streak snapped in a fiery Sydney Derby last weekend, while Melbourne Victory head into this clash on the back of a tight win over Adelaide United.

The market may have overreacted to both these results.

Sydney FC have won their past four matches against the Victory and they continue to be a profitable betting play as home favourites.

In contrast, Melbourne have won only four of their past 16 games as underdogs and Marvel Stadium has hardly been a fortress for them this season.

Sydney FC are excellent value at $2.38.

Despite their loss to Melbourne City last weekend, there is some optimism surrounding the Brisbane Roar for the first time in a couple of seasons and they will go into tonight's clash with the Western Sydney Wanderers as clear favourites.

That confidence might be misguided.

The home side has won only one of the past nine matches played between these two sides and the Roar haven't beaten the Wanderers at Suncorp Stadium since 2017.

Adelaide United are the shortest-priced favourites of the weekend with Ladbrokes and they look like a safe bet to return to winning form against Western United.

There were plenty of upsets in the EPL last weekend, most notably Watford ending the unbeaten run of Liverpool, but the Ladbrokes markets suggest that favourite punters will be able to bounce back this week.

Eight of the ten favourites in the EPL this weekend are odds-on and a multi of all those favourites comes to $25.77 - not bad, but you would expect more for eight winners!

The Manchester Derby headlines the weekend's action and Manchester City are one of those odds-on favourites.

Manchester United ($4.50) have the home ground advantage, but recent history between these two sides suggests that isn't actually an advantage at all.

The home side has won only one of the past nine EPL games played between the two sides and Manchester United haven't beaten their rivals at Old Trafford since 2015.

Manchester City have won 14 of their past 19 games as away favourites for a small loss, while Manchester United are still chasing their first win as home underdogs this season.

It would not surprise if Manchester City dropped points in this clash and the $4 available for a stalemate does represent some value.

Kings Will Dream won the Turnbull Stakes third-up over this track and distance in the Spring and his lead-up form has been even better this campaign. He found the line nicely to finish fourth in the C.F. Orr Stakes and he was only narrowly beaten by Miss Siska in the Peter Young Stakes. Flemington is the ideal track for him and he will relish the step-up to 2000 metres.

The Sharks have won only three of their past six games as home favourites and their recent record against the Jaguares is poor. Consistency has been an issue for the Jaguares this season to date, but they seemed to finally click into gear with a big win over the Bulls. They have won four of their past nine games as away underdogs for a clear profit and represent serious value at $2.35.

Backing Sydney FC has been a profitable betting play in the A-League for a number of seasons now and there is no reason to jump off them ahead of this clash with Melbourne Victory. Melbourne have won only two of the past 12 games played between these two sides and anything better than even money is good value for Sydney.

Watford could come crushing back to earth following their stunning win over Liverpool last weekend. Crystal Palace have been one of the most consistent betting sides in the EPL this season and they have won seven of their past nine games as clear favourites, while Watford have won only one of their past 15 games as away underdogs.
