US Appstore to allow more betting apps

5th March, 08:34

Following the recent court ruling in the US, we will find more and more betting apps will become available in the US Appstore. Strangely enough, as the decision transferred responsibility for legislation to the State level, it's not possible to actually use these apps in each State as of yet and has led to some funny situations where punters had to cross a State line in order to use the apps legally. The recent Super Bowl experienced the highest amount of wagers made in history but residents in New York had to cross over to New Jersey to make their bets.

The main category of betting apps would be those from the major bookie sites. Most of these are UK based like the latest mobile app from William Hill. A natural progression occurred from High Street shops to an online presence, and with the arrival of iPhones and similar devices, to the development of apps. Other factors contributing to their popularity would be faster internet speeds and new micro payment systems allowing instant top-ups from services like PayPal for example.

Looking more closely at the options we see that the range of ways to make a wager have increased and include all types of casino games from slots to Texas Hold'em poker and of course include the traditional sports betting apps. Increased graphics have made many of these apps a realistic entertainment experience and the incorporation of chat features has also made them a sociable way of interacting with other players.

A secondary category has emerged offering ancillary services like odds calculators and in-depth analysis. These are useful tools for any serious gambler and, along with bankroll apps, are fast becoming popular. These apps can be very advanced and are essentially high-speed mathematicians on your iPhone or Android device. The odds calculators, for example, can examine past form of a racehorse and compare the statistics of the other horses in a race, improving the returns that can be made. This is based on chance but it's always good to have something to even the playing field. For serious players, the bankroll apps keep track of your spending, which is useful for both controlling what budget you allocate and acts as a reminder not to wager too much.

While the arena is constantly changing, it's interesting to note what developments have been made so far and what to expect in the future. For the US, there will certainly be more States opting in and on a global stage, more and more options will emerge to hopefully offer more competition in the market.
