Where To Bet Week 1 NFL Games at PA Online Sportsbooks

8th September, 00:16

The first week of the NFL season has arrived, and for bettors across Pennsylvania it marks the first time they can bet online at one of PA's online sportsbooks.

With online sports betting officially going live this summer, and with some apps launching in just the last few days, we thought it would be wise to give you an overview of where and how to bet on the NFL in Pennsylvania this season.

You can play on desktop, iOS, and Android, so virtually everyone with some sort of web connection can get in on the action. Here are our recommendations.

Available in New Jersey, West Virginia, and of course, Pennsylvania, FanDuel Sportsbook is the most popular sports betting app in the US. For good reason- it offers one of the best user interfaces, no shortage of action (including live betting), and one mobile app available across all states.

The one downside is that we find their odds to occasionally be more expensive than their competitors, and their promos and odds boosts to be less generous. Still, you can't go wrong with FanDuel Sportsbook PA.

FOX Bet PA launched this week. It is the first online sportsbook from a major media company in the US, following the SkyBet model from the UK.

We love the app.

The live gamecasts, stats, and win probabilities are class-leading and genuinely useful when placing your action and keeping up with your bet. What's more, they offer daily odds boosts tied to FOX Sports personalities that are both fun and provide some value.

One thing to note: there are separate apps for each state, so in PA, FOX Bet is called "FOX Bet Pennsylvania." You can download the correct app here .

The bonus for new users is straightforward and sans restrictions- you get $20 upon signup and then your first deposit is matched up to $100. Both of these happen instantly.

We'll get to the point quickly here: SugarHouse Sportsbook, and its sister site BetRivers, don't offer an iOS app. That is a deal-breaker for some. Both sites are owned by Rush Street Interactive and almost identical, with the exception that SugarHouse offers its popular online casino alongside the sports betting portion. It comes down to brand preference, as SugarHouse is based out of Philly, while Rivers is based out of Pittsburgh. It's worth noting, however, that Rush Street will begin using the Rivers brand exclusively beginning this fall.

One huge differentiating factor for SugarHouse and Rivers is that they both offer a season-long NFL Pick 'Em contest, which you can sign up for until September 8 at 1 p.m. It is $150 to enter and features $500k in prizes with no vig. It's the only sports betting contest of its sort in Pennsylvania.

PA online sports betting offers all of the action on the NFL you would come to expect, and then some.

Sportsbooks in PA offer bets on spreads, moneylines, totals, team and player props, parlays, and more. The amount of action is staggering, and effectively infinite when you factor in live betting, with odds updated in real-time throughout the games. At some sportsbooks, like FanDuel and SugarHouse, you can even cash out of active bets to book a profit (or loss).

The onboarding process is relatively straightforward, but more detailed than you might expect. As a heavily regulated industry by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, PA sportsbooks require you to enter all of your personal details, including the last four digits of your social security number. This is to ensure that all players are over 21.

You don't need to be a resident of Pennsylvania, but you do need to be physically present in the state when you bet (verified by geolocation check).

Betting apps in PA offer a range of deposit options, from online banking to PayPal. We recommend online banking as the simplest option, or using echeck where it's unavailable. Credit and debit card transactions for gambling are frequently declined by banks. Though your mileage may vary depending upon who your provider is.

Bet limits begin under $1 and generally extend to $10,000, depending on the event.
